PHED, Rajasthan

Challenges

PHED, the Public Health Engineering Department of Haryana, intended to increase its digital footprint. It observed that most of its customers relied on cash-based payments at physical centres in Rajasthan. In terms of digital penetration, PHED was live only across 50,000 eMitra centres offline.

The solution

In order to increase its digital penetration, improve customer experience and streamline collections, PHED partnered with Bharat Connect. Through this collaboration, they expanded the payment touchpoints available and improved the operational efficiency of the collection process.

Now, the Government of Rajasthan is also exploring bringing E-Mitra as an agent institution in the Bharat Connect ecosystem.

Challenges

Providing the FASTag recharge facility to match the pace of growth in FASTag issuances to vehicles, while maintaining operational efficiency.

Bajaj Pay joined hands with Bharat Connect to fast-track the onboarding process for billers. This resulted in Bajaj Pay being the fastest-growing biller in the FASTag category while being accommodative of further modifications that helped improve customer convenience and success rates.

Bharatgas - Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)

Challenges

Veering customers towards a digital-first approach, BPCL wanted to encourage customers to reduce reliance on cash payments. However, customers preferred cash on delivery due to a lack of awareness and accessibility to digital payment methods. Additionally, constant payment delays leading to reconciliation issues further fueled inefficiencies. The strong resistance and general lack of awareness regarding safe, secure and convenient payment options deterred a shift to digital platforms.

The solution

BPCL integrated Bharat Connect into its ecosystem to enable seamless and secure digital payments. This enabled multi-channel digital payments via UPI, e-wallets, and BharatGas app. Users could receive real-time payment confirmations, reducing errors and delays. Addressing another key parameter in digital payments, Bharat Connect offered enhanced security features that aligned with RBI and NPCI guidelines. 

Running omnichannel campaigns for customer awareness further boosted goodwill and credibility.

PayTm (One97 Communications Limited)

Challenges

Making recurring bill payments simple and accessible to all. PayTm intends to simplify how people pay their regular bills—like electricity, water, and phone bills—so the process is hassle-free for everyone.

The solution

Bharat Connect launched the Unified Presentment Management System (UPMS), which enabled users to set up standing instructions on their recurring bill payments across all channels and modes of digital payments. Under the system, bills are automatically fetched from the billers and presented to customers to take action in terms of auto-debit and bill payment management.

PayTm has successfully registered more than 50 million bills with more than 80 billers being onboarded on UPMS. This has been a major contributor in reversing the downward trend observed in electricity bill payments on PayTm.
